Mahjong Scoring System

There are several scoring options in Mahjong, but the essence is always the same: the more complex the combination, the more points you get. Here are the basic scoring rules:

A normal win - brings 10 points.

A combination with dragons or winds (Pong) - three identical tiles of one of these types give from 10 to 20 points, depending on the specific type.

A pure combination - if all tiles are of the same suit (for example, only bamboo or symbols), the player can get from 40 to 80 points.

Secret hands - special combinations, such as completely assembled from Pongs, can bring 50+ points.

A win by own selection - if a player finishes the game by drawing the final tile himself (without using other people’s discards), his result is doubled (x2 multiplier).

After the round is over, the other players pay the winner the appropriate number of points or follow certain betting rules, depending on the version of Mahjong you choose. Regardless of the variation, the main thing is to collect the most valuable hand or be the first to declare “Mahjong”!
